Thea is twenty months old today

It's been an exciting month. We went to Hawaii with Heather and Amy for a week to meet the grandparents.

The first night we were in Hawaii was pretty funny. Thea woke up at her normal time, but it was 1 a.m. in Honolulu. We tried to convince her to go back to sleep, but she was wide awake. Eventually we gave up and took her to an all-night diner for breakfast. It was just us and a bunch of island club kids coming in from the bars. They looked at us like we were monsters for keeping our daughter out so late, but she was so cheerful and sweet that no one said anything to us. I have to admit, it was nice to see a slice of the nightlife, too!

We took Thea to the beach several times in Hawaii, but she didn't like the sand or the ocean. Heather kept trying to talk her into going into the water with her, but she always firmly refused.

Thea can count to ten and know lots of words. In fact, she knows so many words that we can't even keep up with everything she knows. Thea constantly surprises us with her vocabulary. She can sing several songs, and right now she's a little obsessed with Elmo from Sesame Street.

Thea is starting to understand that I have a baby growing in my belly. When we first tried to explain it to her, I think she thought that I had eaten a baby, and gave me the most disapproving look. But now she pats my belly and says "baby," and even today suggested that perhaps a fat bear in a story might also be growing a baby.
